Changing the size of the text

In Internet Explorer 7:
Go to View - Text Size, then select your desired text size setting (largest, larger, medium, smaller, smallest)

In Firefox 2.0.0.9:
Go to View - Text size, then select either 'increase' or 'decrease'

If your mouse has a scrolling wheel in the middle of the right and left click buttons, you can hold down Ctrl on the keyboard and scroll it up and down, the text size will increase and decrease. This works in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Changing computer screen settings

To change the size of the image on your screen, go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Display. Select the 'Settings' tab', then use the sliding bar to change the screen resolution.

Accessibility in Windows

Windows also have a number of computer settings you can select to make your enjoyment of our website better. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Accessibility Options. You can select options to alter your keyboard, display and mouse settings.

Design of the website

We have designed the website to make it as easy to use as possible. Elements of this include:

  • Using meaningful Alt text on all images to provide useful and descriptive text for users
  • Using descriptive hyperlink text
  • Using an easy to use and identifiable colour scheme
  • Information in other languages - opens the Crimestoppers service to more people
  • Using header tags to highlight meanings and content on each page
  • Having html alternatives for the flash scrollers

We are also working hard at making sure our website has useful content that is laid out in an easy-to-navigate way, taking into consideration people who use speech readers.

This website has been built to WAI AA standards and W3C compliancy XHTML 1.0.Trans.
